The 'Lasagne' route in the Nockberge, a solid Grade 7, proved to be an unforgettable alpine rock climbing adventure. We began our day with an early start, hiking through the gently rolling, larch-dotted landscapes typical of this beautiful Austrian range. As we neared the face, the whimsical name 'Lasagne' began to make sense; the rock presented itself in distinct layers, almost like geological strata, each offering a different challenge. The climbing was varied and demanding, requiring precise footwork on intricate slabs and powerful moves on steeper sections. The crux pitch, a technical, slightly overhanging slab, demanded precise technique and unwavering focus. The exposure was thrilling, providing panoramic vistas of the surrounding Nockberge. Reaching the summit, the sense of accomplishment was immense, a perfect blend of physical exertion and mental engagement. 'Lasagne' isn't just a climb; it's an experience that truly embodies the wild beauty and challenging spirit of the Nockberge.
