Climbing the 'Reifweg & Herbstwind' route on the Grossofen in Schneeberg is a satisfying adventure for climbers comfortable with grades 4+/5- (UIAA). This route offers a mix of exposed sections and enjoyable climbing on solid rock. The views from the Grossofen are spectacular, rewarding the effort. Expect some route finding challenges, especially on Reifweg, as the markings can be sparse in places. Herbstwind often provides a more direct and well-marked ascent. Both routes offer a great introduction to alpine climbing in the eastern Alps and a fantastic day out in the Schneeberg region. Be sure to check weather conditions beforehand, as Schneeberg's alpine climate can change rapidly. Consider using a rope and harness, and bring sufficient protection (quickdraws, slings, etc.) based on your experience and comfort level.
