The whisper of 'Night Fly' (grade 6) in Settore Centrale of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo had long echoed in my climbing dreams. It's more than just a route; it's an ode to Dolomitic grandeur. We started in the pre-dawn hush, headlamps cutting through the mountain mist, the sheer face of Cima Grande looming above. The first pitches, demanding a precise grade 6 technique, quickly warmed cold fingers and focused the mind. Classic limestone, sharp and positive, provided a thrilling dance of friction and delicate balance. As we ascended, the exposure grew, the world falling away beneath our boots, revealing a breathtaking panorama of peaks and valleys bathed in the emerging sun. Each move on 'Night Fly' felt deliberate, a rhythm of pushing, pulling, trusting the rock. The sustained nature of the grade 6 felt like a constant mental and physical test, rewarding commitment with incredible positions. Reaching the final anchors, exhausted but exhilarated, the silence of the summit was profound, broken only by the wind and the beating of our own hearts. Descending, the memories of the soaring rock, the perfect holds, and the raw beauty of the Dolomites under the gaze of 'Night Fly' were etched forever. It’s a route that truly earns its name, flying high in the heart of the mountains.
