The 'Egerländerkante' on the 'Kleine Laserzwand' is a true classic, offering an accessible yet rewarding climbing experience in the stunning Lienz Dolomites. Rated at a modest UIAA grade 3+, this route is perfect for those new to multi-pitch climbing, families, or experienced climbers seeking a relaxed and scenic day out.
The climb follows a distinctive, gently rising ridge (Kante), offering mostly slabby climbing with some easy cracks and solid holds. While technically undemanding, the exposure increases as you ascend, providing a real alpine feel. Protection is generally good, with a mix of older fixed gear and ample opportunities for natural placements. The rock quality is typical for the Dolomites – solid, grippy limestone.
From the summit, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the impressive Große Laserzwand and the wider Dolomites landscape. It's a fantastic route to gain confidence, practice rope management, and simply enjoy the grandeur of the mountains without extreme technical demands. A helmet is essential, and a small rack for additional protection is advisable.
