The Taubenstein Südgrat - Südostflanke (Southeast Flank of the South Ridge) is a classic introductory alpine climb on the Taubenstein, a popular peak in the Bavarian Alps. Graded at 3, it offers a rewarding experience for climbers with some prior experience and a good head for heights. The route combines scrambling, easy climbing sections, and exposed traverses, making it a diverse and engaging ascent. Typically, the rock is solid, but caution is advised, particularly in sections that may be loose. Routefinding is generally straightforward, following the crest of the ridge, but a good topo and basic alpine skills are still essential. Proper equipment, including a rope, helmet, and appropriate footwear, is crucial. The views from the summit are spectacular, encompassing the surrounding mountains and valleys. After the summit, descent routes are available via marked trails, allowing for a less technical return to the starting point. This climb provides a fantastic introduction to alpine climbing and offers a great day out in a beautiful mountain environment.
