The Südostgrat, or Southeast Ridge, of the Tuxeck peak offers a classic and rewarding alpine climbing experience for those comfortable with scrambling and exposed situations. Graded at 3/3+ in difficulty (UIAA scale), this route presents a fantastic introduction to multi-pitch climbing in the Tux Alps. The climb typically involves engaging with solid, albeit sometimes polished, rock. Expect a mixture of easy scrambling sections interspersed with short, steeper steps requiring careful footwork and hand placements. Route finding can be straightforward, but some attention is still needed, especially in areas with less defined trails or when visibility is reduced. Proper alpine gear, including a harness, helmet, rope, and appropriate footwear, is essential. Depending on conditions, some protection may be beneficial for less experienced climbers. The summit of Tuxeck provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Zillertal Alps and Tux Glacier, making the effort well worth the reward. Be prepared for changing weather conditions, as mountain weather can be unpredictable. A descent via the normal route is typically recommended.
