Deep in the granite heart of the Waldviertel, where ancient forests meet rugged rock formations, lies the climbing area of Kampstein. Our objective for the day was 'Fuzzy Logic', a captivating route graded 6-. The name itself hints at a certain enigmatic quality, and the climb certainly delivered on that promise.
The approach was a short, winding path through the dense woods, the air crisp and smelling of pine. At the base of the imposing granite wall, 'Fuzzy Logic' presented itself as a clean, appealing line. It starts with a series of technical slabby moves, requiring delicate foot placements and a keen eye for subtle friction holds. The 'fuzziness' began here – the holds aren't always obvious, demanding precise body positioning and a bit of faith.
As the route gains height, it transitions into slightly steeper terrain, challenging climbers with small crimps and thoughtful sequences. The crux, for me, wasn't about brute strength but about deciphering the logic of the rock, finding the right balance between pushing hard and moving with grace. It felt like a true puzzle, rewarding patience and precise execution.
Reaching the anchor, the views over the rolling, forested hills of the Wachau/Waldviertel region were breathtaking, a just reward for the mental and physical engagement. 'Fuzzy Logic' is a beautifully put-up route, a classic example of a technical granite climb that tests not just your physical prowess but also your ability to read the rock and trust your intuition. A highly recommended 6- experience.
