Overview

Grade: 6

Today, I set my sights on a true classic of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains: 'Ameisensäure' (Grade 6) in Wiese I (East). This route holds a reputation for its technical demands and slightly exposed sections, truly testing one's slab climbing prowess. The sandstone here is unique, offering incredible friction but demanding precise footwork and mental composure. As I started up the first pitch, the initial moves felt surprisingly straightforward, but soon the grade 6 crux presented itself – a delicate traverse on tiny holds, requiring absolute trust in the rubber on my shoes and the rock beneath my fingertips. The exposure grew with each meter, offering breathtaking views over the surrounding forests and rock towers. Reaching the top, the sense of accomplishment was immense, combined with the pure joy of having danced on such an iconic piece of rock. 'Ameisensäure' is more than just a climb; it's an experience that captures the essence of Saxon climbing.
