Tackling 'Alle Anfang ist schwer!' (Grade 6) on the impressive Zauberwand was an experience I won't soon forget. The name, meaning 'Every beginning is hard,' felt particularly apt as I eyed the initial slabby section. It wasn't the most physically demanding part, but required delicate footwork and precise balance – a true test right from the get-go. Once past this initial challenge, the route opened up, revealing a wonderful mix of technical face climbing and engaging crack lines. The Zauberwand itself lived up to its name, offering breathtaking exposure and panoramic views that stretched for miles. Each move felt deliberate, a dance with the rock. Despite its Grade 6 rating, which indicates a serious but manageable climb, the route flowed beautifully once the rhythm was found. Reaching the summit, the sense of accomplishment was immense, and the views were simply magical. 'Alle Anfang ist schwer!' indeed – but the reward was absolutely worth every 'hard beginning'.
