Via Ferrata in Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge

8 ferratas
B–E grades

The Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge are two compact limestone massifs on the border between Tyrol and Salzburg, full of bizarre rock formations, dolines and karst caves. The highest summits of the Loferer Steinberge are the Großes Ochsenhorn (2,511 m) and the Großes Hinterhorn (2,506 m). The two ranges are among Austria's top limestone areas, with more than 1,000 sport routes in total, including one of the longest bolted routes in the Alps, the 45-pitch "Pinzgawurm". Around the Schmidt-Zabierow-Hütte (1,966 m) alone there are about 70 routes, a via ferrata training area and a 40 m suspension bridge; at the foot of the range, the Adolari climbing garden in the Pillersee valley (840 m, south-east facing) has been climbed since the mid-1980s and suits ambitious climbers.

The hut is reached from Lofer via the Loferer Hochtal in about 2.5 to 3 hours (1,150 m of ascent); the Adolari crag is about 15 minutes from its car park. Valley crags are good from spring to autumn, the high walls and the hut area mainly from June to September.

Part of Tyrol, Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge has 8 via ferrata routes documented on climbing.place. Routes are listed below with difficulty and community notes.
