The Nock Mountains in Carinthia are a range of gentle, rounded summits between Bad Kleinkirchheim and the Millstätter See – better known for hiking than for rock walls. Climbers come mainly for the Breitwand (890 m) above Döbriach, regarded as one of the best-equipped crags in Carinthia: four sectors of compact schist, 30 to 70 m high and facing south-east, with technical climbing on cracks and holds, mostly in the 5th and 6th French grade and up to around 7+. Sector A is multi-pitch only and is considered ideal for learning multi-pitch climbing, sectors B to D are single-pitch sport climbing, and there is also a demanding via ferrata.
Döbriach is reached via the B 98 from Spittal an der Drau or Radenthein; from the parking area near the Oberweger Haus company (640 m) the crag is about 15 minutes' walk – please use the designated parking and not the company grounds. The rock dries quickly after rain but is not rain-proof. Early spring to early summer and autumn are best; in midsummer it is only pleasant early in the morning. Wear a helmet; the crag is not suitable for small children.
Part of Carinthia, Nock Mountains has 6 via ferrata routes documented on climbing.place. Routes are listed below with difficulty and community notes.
