The Mannlgrat Klettersteig on Hoher Göll is a classic Grade C via ferrata, offering an exhilarating ascent to one of the Berchtesgaden Alps' most iconic peaks. Starting near the Dokumentation Obersalzberg or the Kehlsteinhaus area, a pleasant hike leads to the base of the Klettersteig. The climb itself is varied and engaging. Grade C means you'll encounter some steep, exposed sections, but always well-secured with steel cables and occasional rebar steps or short ladders. The exposure is significant in parts, demanding a good head for heights and sure-footedness. The panoramic views open up quickly, becoming increasingly breathtaking as you gain altitude – you see the Watzmann, Untersberg, Salzburg, and the surrounding Austrian and German Alps. Reaching the summit cross of Hoher Göll (2,522 m) is incredibly rewarding. The 360-degree vistas are simply magnificent. The descent is typically via the normal route, often a long and sometimes tiring hike back towards the Purtschellerhaus or directly to the starting point. It's important to factor in the time and energy required for this. Overall, Mannlgrat is a highly recommended experience for moderately experienced climbers, combining thrilling Klettersteig sections with an unforgettable summit view.
