Climbing the 'Scala del Menighel' (Menighel's Ladder) is an iconic and memorable experience in the heart of the Dolomites, typically graded B/C. This historic fixed-ladder section is not a standalone climb but often forms a thrilling part of the Sentiero delle Scalette or similar routes, leading through dramatic rock faces. Graded B/C, it presents a moderate to challenging ascent. While 'B' sections involve moderately steep ladders and exposed passages, 'C' elements introduce more sustained verticality and greater exposure, demanding good arm strength and a steady head for heights. The climb offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Essential equipment includes a complete via ferrata set (harness, shock absorber, two carabiners), a helmet, sturdy hiking boots, and gloves for hand protection. Participants should have prior via ferrata experience or be accompanied by an experienced guide, as the exposure can be significant. The return typically involves continuing along a marked trail or another section of the ferrata system, completing a scenic loop rather than simply descending the ladders.
