The Frauenmauerhöhle is a 644 m through-cave under the Frauenmauer (1,827 m) in the western Hochschwab. It connects the Eisenerz side (west entrance) with Tragöß (east entrance). This isn't a classic via ferrata. You climb iron ladders up to the cave and then follow a protected passage through the dark.

Park at the Gsollkurve on the B115 between Eisenerz and Präbichl. From there it's about 45 minutes to the Gsollalm and roughly 2 hours in total to the west entrance. To get back, you can go over the top via the Neuwaldegg saddle or the Bärenloch saddle, and the short Bärenloch-Steig (A) nearby fits in well.

The passage is a private path, and you can only go through with the local cave guides. Tours run in summer, from June to September, so check the current dates before you go. Bring a reliable headlamp and a spare, warm clothes and a helmet.

Discover Frauenmauerhöhle, a Via Ferrata rated A. The cable section spans 644 meters in length, leading to a peak altitude of 1460 meters. Plan for a total adventure time of approximately 4 hrs, with the main ferrata ascent taking about 30 minutes.
