Via ferrata Bechyně is one of the hardest classic ferratas in the Czech Republic: grade D/E, roughly 500 m of climbing and about 60 m of height gain along the Lužnice. You do not climb “up a mountain” so much as power along an overhanging horizontal traverse just above the river, with few rests and a lot of arm work. Plan around two hours on the wire — the route is a dead end, so after the crux you turn around and reverse the entire line.
From the paid day parking on road 122 between Bechyně and Nuzice (about 15–20 minutes), the approach drops to the river; the ferrata starts with an unusual ladder descent onto the traverse. Midway you meet a rope bridge (or a harder rock bypass around the bay) — the best place to pass oncoming parties. Near the end, a short but serious E overhang leads to the bench and summit book; save enough strength for the return.
Bring a full via-ferrata kit, helmet, and a rest lanyard. High water makes the line unsafe or impossible. This is a fitness test for experienced ferrata climbers, not a first outing. Confirm parking fees and the current status of the bridge before you go; the topo already linked on climbing.place matches the bergsteigen.com photo topo.
