The Priel Klettersteig, located in the stunning Totes Gebirge range of Austria's Salzkammergut, is a truly exhilarating and demanding alpine adventure. Graded 'D', it lives up to its reputation as a difficult and physically strenuous route, requiring significant upper body strength and a solid head for heights. The climb features extensive sections of exposed, vertical ascent, relying heavily on iron rungs, wire ropes, and ladders. Negotiating the steep, often airy passages to the summit of Grosser Priel (2,515 m) offers continuous challenge and breathtaking exposure. Reaching the peak is incredibly rewarding, providing panoramic views across the surrounding mountain landscape. The descent is typically a long, but well-marked hiking trail, bringing a fulfilling end to a memorable day.
