Climbing Orla Perć, the 'Eagle's Path,' in the Polish High Tatras is an unforgettable and demanding experience. Graded B/C, it's not a mere hike but a challenging, exposed, via ferrata-like trail that demands sure-footedness, a good head for heights, and reasonable physical fitness. You'll encounter a series of fixed aids like chains, ladders, and iron steps, traversing narrow ridges and steep sections with breathtaking drops. The route is notoriously difficult and exposed, often requiring a helmet and a via ferrata set for safety, especially given its popularity. Many sections are one-way to manage traffic. The unparalleled panoramic views of the Tatras from its exposed heights are incredibly rewarding. After completing a section, the return typically involves descending a marked, easier trail from one of the peaks along the route, such as from Kozi Wierch or the Granaty ridge, leading back down to the valleys or refuges.
