On June 13, 2025, Canadian climber Ethan Salvo made history with the second ascent of Event Horizon V16 (8C+) in Squamish, British Columbia—becoming the first Canadian ever to climb a V16 boulder problem.

🌌 The Line: Event Horizon

  • Located in The Room, a granite cave beneath Squamish’s Grand Wall

  • Originally climbed by Andy Lamb in winter 2024

  • Begins with a low start into Room Service Low V14, then links into Room Service V12

  • Adds eight savage hand moves to an already brutal sequence

  • Currently considered Canada’s hardest boulder problem

🧠 The Journey & Emotion

Salvo’s ascent came just three days after sending Dreamcatcher 5.14d, his hardest sport route to date. He spent years projecting in The Room, completing climbs like:

  • Room Service Low V14

  • The Singularity V15

  • Dreamcatcher 5.14d

After topping Event Horizon, Salvo described the moment as bittersweet:

“I’ve proved to myself that I’ve become the climber I’ve always wanted to become... Event Horizon really closed a chapter in The Room for me”.

🔥 Why It Matters

This ascent isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s a landmark for Canadian climbing. Salvo’s achievement elevates the country’s profile in elite bouldering and showcases the emotional depth behind pushing limits.
