🏔️ “Carlos Suárez” — A Tribute on Nevado Cashan (5,686m)
📍 Location & Context
Mountain: Nevado Cashan, Cordillera Blanca, Peruvian Andes
Face: Northwest Face
Altitude: 5,686 meters
Date of Ascent: July 26–27, 2025
Route Name: Carlos Suárez, in honor of the legendary Spanish mountaineer who tragically died in a wingsuit accident in April 2025.
🧗♂️ The Climbers
Manuel López and Alex Úbeda, both experienced alpinists, undertook the climb after acclimatizing on Alpamayo (5,947m) and resting in Huaraz.
🧭 The Ascent
The approach was grueling: a misstep in navigation led to a six-hour detour before reaching base camp in the Rajucolta Valley.
On the first day, they climbed 240 meters across five pitches, with difficulties ranging from V+ to 7a. The rock quality was exceptional, especially in the dihedral systems.
The fourth pitch featured a sustained and technical 7a dihedral, marking the route’s crux.
The second day began at 4 a.m., with the climbers pushing through cold conditions and finishing the 500-meter line with maximum difficulties up to 7a+.
🌟 Significance
The route is described as “extremely high quality” and stands as a heartfelt tribute to Carlos Suárez — a climber, adventurer, and BASE jumper whose legacy continues to inspire the mountaineering community
