🧗♂️ Pete Whittaker’s Epic Rope Solo of Blåmann’s North Wall
In a jaw-dropping display of endurance, skill, and mental fortitude, British climber Pete Whittaker has rope soloed the North Wall of Blåmann in Norway—all free, all alone, and all within 24 hours. This ascent is one of the boldest big wall solos in recent years, pushing the limits of what’s possible in alpine trad climbing.
🏔️ The Wall: Store Blåmann, Norway
Height: ~400 meters
Nickname: “Little Big Wall” of Norway
Style: Steep granite, multi-pitch trad climbing
Challenges: Remote access, unpredictable weather, and complex route-finding
Blåmann is known for its wild exposure and unforgiving terrain. It’s rarely soloed, and never before has someone completed a full free rope solo in a single day.
🔩 The Ascent
Pete began his climb in the early hours, carrying all gear needed for rope soloing: ascenders, belay devices, and self-rescue tools.
He tackled the wall pitch by pitch, setting anchors and belaying himself—an exhausting and time-consuming process.
Despite the technical and logistical complexity, he completed the entire climb in under 24 hours, without any falls or aid.
