Goal
Eliminate foot readjustments by hovering each foot before placing it exactly once.
Equipment
Climbing wall easy problems or traverses

Goal: Force deliberate foot placement - the fastest fix for noisy, imprecise footwork.

Protocol

  • Work: 1 easy problem/traverse with hover rule (approx. 2.5 minutes)
  • Rest: 90 seconds
  • Climbs: 5 per set
  • Sets: 2
  • Rest between sets: 5 minutes

The Hover Rule

  1. Before every foot placement, hover the toe 2-3 cm above the foothold for 2 seconds.
  2. Look at the hold the entire time, then place the foot silently and precisely.
  3. Once placed, the foot must not move - no readjusting, no scraping.

Frustrating at first, transformative within weeks. Combine with silent feet: if you hear the placement, repeat the problem.
