Climbing at Hostýn Hills

415 routes
7 areas
2–10- grades

The Hostýn Hills are the lower eastern part of the Hostýn-Vsetín Mountains in the Zlín Region, separated from the Vsetín Hills by the Bečva river. They belong to the flysch Western Carpathians – the Držková rocks, protected as a nature monument, are sandstones (mostly subarkoses) of the Paleocene Lukov Beds of the Soláň Formation in the Rača unit of the Magura flysch. The climbing crags are scattered over the wooded ridges: Skály u Držkové, Skalný, Skály u Lukova, Čertovy skály near Hošťálková and the area around Tesák.

Skály u Držkové are a typical example – south-facing sandstone walls up to 20 m high at about 500 m altitude, with sport climbing on crimps on slabs and vertical walls, a short uphill approach and a base suitable for families with children. Thanks to the aspect, climbing is possible practically all year. Across the area protection is fixed and textile. The crags lie in protected areas and climbing follows the conditions of the nature authorities – check current restrictions with the Czech Mountaineering Association. The area is covered by the guidebook Moravské skály I. – Východní Morava (2018).
