The Kreuzwand is the largest and best-known crag of the Maltatal in Carinthia: a southwest-facing gneiss wall 15–100 m high standing right beside the valley road, about 5 km beyond Malta (1 km past the Fallbach waterfall), with a walk-in of five minutes. Climbing here began in 1984 with the valley's first bolt; the crag was renovated in 2015 and offers varied climbing on slabs, cracks, corners, edges and long endurance lines. It dries quickly after rain and is considered child-friendly.
The left part holds many of the hard classics, often split into pitches (L1, L2) – among them Tatonka, Syrus, Camel Filter, Killing Ghandi and Titanic – as well as a few easier lines such as Gfiatach or Tyrannosaurus sex. Bring a 70 m rope.
Part of Ankogel Group, Kreuzwand Linker Teil has 41 routes documented on climbing.place. Routes range from grade 5+ to 9+/10-. Routes are listed below with grade, style, and community notes.
Often climbed in March, April, May.
