Climbing at Ötztal Alps

43 routes
11 areas
3-–8+ grades

The Ötztal Alps, Austria's highest mountain group with glaciers around the Wildspitze, are also one of the country's top destinations for climbing on crystalline rock. The Ötztal valley alone has more than 750 routes on 21 crags, with the main centres around Oetz at the valley entrance and Längenfeld-Oberried further up; many crags lie right by the road, while the side valleys such as the Pitztal lead to longer alpine routes on walls like the Fernergrieswände, the Parstleswand or the Watzespitze.

The valley is easy to reach from the Inn valley motorway at Ötztal Bahnhof. Valley crags at lower altitude are good from spring to autumn, whereas the high walls and peaks are mainly in condition from June to September, with typical high-mountain hazards such as fast-changing weather and long descents.

Part of Tyrol, Ötztal Alps has 43 routes documented on climbing.place. Routes range from grade 3- to 8+. Explore its 11 crags and sectors below.

Often climbed in June, July, September.
