Recently, I had the pleasure of climbing "Das Letzte im Fels" (The Last in the Rock), a classic route graded 5- in the Röthelstein SE spur. This route offers a fantastic introduction to alpine climbing in this area, characterized by solid limestone and enjoyable moves. The climb is relatively short but provides sustained interest and enough exposure to keep things exciting.
The rock quality is excellent, with plenty of holds and good friction. The route finding is generally straightforward, though paying attention is always crucial. The belay stations are well-equipped and comfortably positioned. While the grade is 5-, some sections feel a bit more committing, especially the crux move.
Overall, "Das Letzte im Fels" is a highly recommended climb for intermediate climbers looking for a rewarding and engaging experience. The views from the top are stunning, making the effort well worth it. Don't forget to bring enough quickdraws and a solid rope for a safe and enjoyable ascent! A helmet is, of course, essential.
