Rope Length: 50m

The Vienna Woods, usually known for its gentle hiking trails and lush greenery, holds a surprising number of climbing areas. I recently had the chance to tackle 'Outside', a grade 6 climb located in one of these hidden pockets. The approach was a pleasant walk through dappled sunlight, the air filled with the scent of pine. The rock itself was solid limestone, slightly polished in places, offering a mix of crimps, slopers, and the occasional reassuring edge. 'Outside' demanded a good balance of technique and power. The crux involved a delicate traverse with questionable footholds, followed by a powerful move to a jug. Managing my energy was key, as the route demanded sustained effort. Topping out was incredibly satisfying. The view from the top, though not panoramic, offered a unique perspective on the surrounding forest, a reminder of the quiet adventure I'd just experienced. 'Outside' proved to be a rewarding and enjoyable climb, perfectly encapsulating the accessible yet challenging nature of climbing in the Vienna Woods.
