The Heiligkreuzkofelsteig und Zehner-Ferrata (variant B/C) is a fantastic climb offering stunning views of the Dolomites. Rated A/B, it's generally considered suitable for experienced via ferrata climbers with good physical fitness and surefootedness. The 'Heiligkreuzkofelsteig' portion is generally easier, providing a good warm-up and leading to the more challenging 'Zehner-Ferrata.'
The B/C rating indicates sections that require more arm strength and precise footwork. Expect some vertical climbs, airy traverses, and potentially exposed positions. Good quality equipment is essential, including a proper via ferrata set, helmet, and sturdy hiking boots. Gloves are also highly recommended to protect your hands. The route is well-maintained but some sections can be slippery, especially if wet.
Before attempting this climb, check the weather forecast and be aware of potential thunderstorms, which are common in the Dolomites. Start early in the day to avoid crowds and allow ample time to complete the route safely. Consider climbing with an experienced partner or hiring a guide, especially if you're new to via ferratas or unsure about the conditions. The panoramic views from the summit are well worth the effort!
