Climbing the Franz Scheikl Naturfreunde Klettersteig (Grade C) in Austria's Gesäuse region is a truly rewarding experience. The route, known for its superb limestone rock and excellent exposure, offers a sustained but manageable challenge. After a scenic approach, the via ferrata quickly gains elevation with steep sections, airy traverses, and a mix of iron staples and wire ropes. While rated 'C', it demands a good head for heights and some arm strength, especially in its more vertical passages. The continuous wire rope provides security, guiding climbers through fascinating rock formations. The views throughout the ascent, particularly towards the imposing peaks of the Gesäuse, are breathtaking. Reaching the top brings a great sense of accomplishment, followed by a descent that often requires careful navigation. It's a classic intermediate Klettersteig, offering both excitement and stunning natural beauty.
