🧗♂️ Siebe Vanhee’s Bold Solo of Voie Petit
Belgian climber Siebe Vanhee has etched his name into alpine climbing history with the first rope-solo ascent of Voie Petit, a legendary 450-meter multi-pitch route graded 8b on the Grand Capucin in the Mont Blanc massif.
🏔️ The Route
Voie Petit was first established in 1997 by Arnaud Petit and team, and freed by Alexander Huber in 2005.
Known for its sustained difficulty and altitude (3838m), it’s considered one of the most demanding high-alpine climbs in Europe.
⛺ The Ascent
Siebe began his climb on June 24, 2025, aiming for a ground-up, single-day rope-solo—a style that demands climbing while managing all rope systems alone.
The route’s meandering pitches and overhanging roofs made hauling gear and rappelling a logistical nightmare.
After a fall on the crux pitch (graded 8b), and a rope snag that forced him to retreat, he bivvied overnight on a ledge.
On day two, he adjusted his strategy, sending the remaining pitches with calculated precision and reached the summit by 11 a.m. on June 25.
💬 Siebe’s Reflections
Vanhee described the climb as a deeply personal challenge:
“Lead rope-soloing hard multi-pitch climbs is just another way to get to know myself better and learn about myself, from climbing.”
🎥 Coming Soon
A documentary film of the ascent, supported by Edelrid, is set to release in Spring 2026, promising a closer look at this extraordinary feat
