🧗‍♂️ Italian Team Opens Bold New Route in Canada’s Remote Cirque of the Unclimbables

In late July 2025, a strong Italian team—Davide Bacci, Enrico Bittelli, Dario Eynard, and Giacomo Meliffi—successfully established a new route called L’oro dello Yukon (“Yukon Gold”) on Middle Huey Spire, deep in the legendary Cirque of the Unclimbables, Canada.

🏔️ The Route

  • Length: ~400 meters

  • Difficulty: 6c/A3, a mix of free and aid climbing

  • Style: Traditional alpine route with a wild splitter crack finale

  • Conditions: Completed over two days in heavy rain, showcasing the team's grit and determination

🌍 The Location

  • Cirque of the Unclimbables lies in Nahanni National Park Reserve, Northwest Territories

  • Known for its remote granite spires and mythical status among climbers

  • No roads lead within 100 miles—access requires serious logistics and commitment

🧭 The Expedition

  • Sponsored by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and Ragni di Lecco

  • Inspired by the 1995 German expedition that opened Fitzcarraldo on Mount Harrison Smith

  • The Italians plan to raft 550 km down the Nahanni River to return to civilization—a poetic finish to a rugged adventure

In a satellite message, Bacci shared:

“All good here. Heavy rain, but we managed to open a 400m route at 6c/A3—super tough, two days of work. L’oro dello Yukon, with a wild splitter finale on Middle Huey Spire. Proud of the team for giving 100%.”

This ascent adds a proud new chapter to the Cirque’s storied climbing history.
