Lucia Dörffel has just etched her name into bouldering history. On July 21, 2025, the 25-year-old German Olympian sent Hazel Grace (8B+) at Switzerland’s Gotthard Pass—her first boulder at this grade.
Originally graded 8C by first ascensionist Giuliano Cameroni in 2017, Hazel Grace has since settled at 8B+ after repeats by legends like Dave Graham and Shauna Coxsey. The line follows a thin seam across the face before climbing up the arete, demanding precision, power, and perseverance.
Lucia’s journey to the top:
🧠 Six sessions over a single trip to Switzerland
💪 Fell on the final hard move in session five
🌧️ Battled changing weather and light rain
🎯 Sent it on her “perfect” go after extending the trip by two days
She shared:
“I had this boulder in my mind for quite some time. It’s a beautiful line in one of my favourite places, and it means a lot to me... Standing on top of this bloc, having climbed my first 8B+ was a great feeling and I’m so psyched for more.”
Hazel Grace now joins her ticklist alongside Riverbed (8B), One Summer in Paradise (8B), and Pura Vida (8A+)
