Lucia Dörffel Sends Hazel Grace (V14) in Gotthard Pass
German Olympian Lucia Dörffel, 25, has made waves in the climbing world by sending the iconic Hazel Grace (V14 / Font 8B+) in Switzerland’s Gotthard Pass, marking her first boulder at this grade and the second female ascent of the line
🪨 About the Boulder
Hazel Grace was first climbed by Giuliano Cameroni in 2017.
The line follows a thin seam across the face, then transitions up a sharp arête.
Originally proposed at V15, consensus has settled it at V14, though the sit-start version remains harder.
🧗 Lucia’s Journey
She completed the climb in six sessions during a single trip to Switzerland.
After falling on the final hard move in session five, she extended her trip by two days.
Despite light rain, she found the conditions ideal and sent the boulder on her next attempt.
💬 Her Reflections
“I had this boulder in my mind for quite some time. It’s a beautiful line in one of my favourite places, and it means a lot to me... Standing on top of this bloc, having climbed my first 8B+ was a great feeling and I’m so psyched for more.
