The Schneckenplatte, with its inviting yet formidable walls, always beckons. Our target for the day was the 'Wolf-Spur', a classic grade 5 route promising both challenge and breathtaking views. After an early start and a scenic approach hike, we stood at the base, gear jingling, the rock cool under our fingertips. The 'Wolf-Spur' lived up to its reputation. Grade 5, yes, but sustained and exposed in sections. The climbing was engaging, a mix of delicate slabs, powerful cracks, and airy traverses. Every hold felt earned, every move precise. The exposure grew with each pitch, offering increasingly panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. There were moments of intense focus, almost meditative, as we moved rhythmically upwards, our only concern the next secure placement and the dance with the rock. Reaching the top was a wave of elation and exhaustion. The sun warmed our faces as we took in the expansive vista, a reward for the effort. The descent was a careful, calculated affair, but the sense of accomplishment overshadowed any fatigue. Climbing the 'Wolf-Spur' on Schneckenplatte wasn't just about conquering a route; it was an immersive experience, a testament to the beauty and challenge of alpine rock climbing, leaving us with vivid memories of a perfect day on vertical terrain.
