The Sentiero delle Palete is a delightful and relatively easy via ferrata, graded A/B, nestled in the mountains above Val Concei, near Lake Garda in Italy. It's an excellent choice for beginners, families, or anyone looking for a scenic and less demanding equipped path.
The ascent typically begins from the parking area near Malga Fiave. After a short approach through a pleasant forest path, you reach the start of the equipped section. The Sentiero delle Palete isn't overly exposed, making it feel very secure. The route features well-placed steel cables, a few short ladders, and pegs that aid the climb. While not technically challenging, it offers an engaging experience as you ascend through the rock face, enjoying increasingly panoramic views of the Val Concei below, the surrounding peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, and even glimpses of Lake Garda on clear days. The climb itself takes about 1-1.5 hours, leading you to the summit area, often referred to as Cima Ghiacciaia or the top of the Palete section.
The return journey is usually a pleasant descent, typically via a marked trail like the Sentiero della Sega, which winds down through the forest. This well-maintained path offers a nice change of pace after the climb, allowing for a relaxed walk back to the starting point at Malga Fiave, completing a rewarding loop.
