Ferrata de Moiry (variant D/E), classified as grade C, is a challenging and exposed via ferrata located in the Valais region of Switzerland. While officially rated a C overall, this variant pushes the difficulty considerably, featuring sustained sections of overhanging rock, requiring significant upper body strength and good technique. The exposure is immense, with stunning views of the Moiry Glacier and surrounding peaks constantly demanding your attention. Expect vertical and even slightly overhanging walls with relatively large steps, demanding precise footwork and powerful pulls. The rock quality is generally excellent, providing secure holds. The variant is not suitable for beginners or those uncomfortable with heights. Proper equipment, including a via ferrata set with energy absorber, helmet, and appropriate footwear, is absolutely essential. Prior experience on similar D/E rated ferratas is highly recommended. Careful planning and monitoring of weather conditions are also crucial due to the altitude and exposed nature of the route. Successfully completing this variant offers a real sense of accomplishment and breathtaking panoramic views.
