The Alpspitz Ferrata, also known as the Alpspitze Klettersteig, is a fantastic introduction to the world of via ferratas, graded a relatively easy 'B'. Located in the beautiful Bavarian Alps, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, it's easily accessed via the Alpspitzbahn cable car to Osterfelderkopf.
From the cable car station, a short approach leads to the start of the secured route. The Klettersteig itself largely involves traversing ledges, navigating short, gentle climbs with the aid of fixed steel ropes, and occasional ladders. While graded B, it offers exhilarating exposure and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Wetterstein mountains and the Höllental valley.
The route culminates at the summit of the Alpspitze (2628m), offering a rewarding sense of achievement. The descent is typically via the Nordwandsteig, which is also secured and completes a scenic loop back towards Osterfelderkopf, or one can descend via the normal hikers' path. It's ideal for beginners with a good head for heights, providing a memorable alpine experience without extreme technical demands.
