Our sights were set on the Eastern Schoberkopf, a stunning granite bastion, for an ascent of 'Berta Peter Paul' (UIAA VII-). The day dawned crisp and clear, promising perfect conditions for this renowned multi-pitch climb. From the very first pitch, the route offered delightful and varied climbing. While graded 7- (UIAA VII-), it certainly kept us on our toes, particularly on the namesake "Berta Peter Paul" pitch itself, which presented a technical challenge with delicate moves on excellent granite. The rock was consistently solid, providing superb friction, and the protection felt secure throughout. Each pitch unfolded with unique character – some steep and engaging, others more slabby and exposed, all offering breathtaking views of the surrounding alpine landscape. The sense of exposure grew with every meter gained, culminating in a spectacular panorama from the summit. Reaching the top was a moment of pure exhilaration, the effort richly rewarded by the vastness of the mountains spread before us. The descent, typically by rappelling down the route or a nearby gully, was straightforward, allowing us to reflect on a truly classic alpine experience. 'Berta Peter Paul' is a testament to quality granite climbing, a route that demands respect but gives back immeasurably in satisfaction and unforgettable memories.
