The Hohe Wand is a limestone massif in the Gutenstein Alps of Lower Austria, rising about 1,000 m above the Vienna Basin and one of the most popular climbing areas near Vienna. Its kilometres-long escarpment offers everything from short sport crags such as Casablanca Wandl, Almfrieden or the Badener Turm to multi-pitch plaisir routes like the Wegscheider (275 m, well bolted), plus several via ferratas.
Access is by car from the A2 (exit Wöllersdorf) via Dreistetten to Stollhof and up the Hohe-Wand-Straße; from the parking area at the "Sonnenuhr" bend the walls are about 15 minutes away. Descents usually follow forest roads past the Alpengasthof Postl or easy via ferratas. On the plateau there are huts such as the Wilhelm-Eichert-Hütte and the Hubertushaus, and the Skywalk viewpoint (1,132 m) looks out over the Alps and the Pannonian lowlands. Spring and autumn are the main seasons.
Part of Gutenstein Alps, Hohe Wand has 3 via ferrata routes documented on climbing.place. Routes are listed below with difficulty and community notes.
